Director

My Directorial debut was a show called “Choir Boy” in January 2025 at the Little Theatre of Norfolk. I wanted to put on a show that showcased Black performers in modern day dealing with regular every day problems, yet make it feel larger than life. I had the idea of making the stage production feel like the audience was watching a movie. So I drew inspiration from Tarell Alvin McCraney’s movie “Moonlight” and blended it with his piece “Choir Boy” to create the show that we put on together. HRACT reviewed the show and said, “Porchia’s blocking is interesting but not distracting, he successfully integrates several cool technical effects, and most importantly, he gets the feel of the show just right”. Later on that year, I went on the win Best Director at the HRACT Awards Ceremony
